Nicaragua Surf Report for Wednesday, December 02, 2009

Hi everyone, this is the NSR family bringing you all the action for this Wednesday surf report.  Today we went to the beach at noon trying to score some waves and snap a few shots.  We had a lot people out there having a good time but it was nice because everybody was mellow.  The waves were running about chest to shoulder high on sets with nice offshore winds and the water was chilly.  Check out the lineup!!!

On the first shot of the day we have Sam from Canada, he was catching some really good waves.  Check him out riding this beautiful right hander.

My brother Roberto “Lucha Libre” decided to take the water camera out and paddled to the lineup.  Here we have Heather “Hace Quesos” dropping on one of the better waves that she had today.

Here we have one of the many international beginners that we had today in the inside part of the beach.  Check out this guy with a solid stand up on this small but fun little nugget.

We had quite a few girls picking up some nice looking waves.  Look up this girl looking down the line on a small but sweet right.

Many people showed out to the beach to enjoy the beautiful day we had.  Very often when we have lots of people on the beach we also meet some cutes girls.  This is Sarah walking around and getting some tan for her body.

We didn’t have many locals out today, but Pedro was there to ask for some respect.  Check him out going big with a cool frontside air.

Did we mention that we have some ladies charging out there?  This is Laura from Germany looking good on this sweet right hander.

We hope to score some fun waves tomorrow as well, so make sure to stay tuned with us!

The first thing I want to say is that Nicaragua has some of the best waves in the world.  Every now and then, I get reminded of that and feel thankful that I live here.  Today we crossed the border to Costa Rica to pick up some new surfboards in Tamarindo.  We left early and pulled up at 10:30am.  That's when I snapped this photo...already onshore and mushy.  Meanwhile, check out the shots above to see what we had (and what I missed) in Nicaragua all-day-long.  More than 100,000 surfers per year travel to C.R. and this is what they surf most of the time.

Alan is the man when you want to make a Costa run.  We hired him to drive and take care of the paperwork.  That's him in the middle there, waiting in line at the border.  Take out the time it takes to cross the border and you can make it from SJDS to Tamarindo in just under 3 hours (and pass the Liberia airport about halfway there).

After 6 years in Nicaragua I'm finally comfortable dealing in Dollars and Cordobas.  Switching from Cordobas to the Costa Rican Colones was another story all together.  Would you trust this guy to give you a good exchange rate?  I did and he hooked it up.  You actually don't need to exchange money - everybody takes Dollars in CR and in Nicaragua.

We get our surftech boards from our friend Wim in Tamarindo.  He runs the Robert August shop there.  We made sure to tag is window with a big, new NSR sticker too!

Here's a cool shot of Playa Tamarindo, looking across to Playa Grande.  It's a beautiful beach but there wasn't much for surf today.

This is Alan, all loaded up in the Land Cruiser and looking good.  We made it there and back in one day without any problems.  Actually, there was a long line at the border on the way back and it took about 2.5 hours to pass.  It was a cool trip though and it was good to check out our neighbors down south.  Pura Vida man!
