Nicaragua Surf Report for Thursday, September 23, 2010

No, this isn't a new surf discovery in Nicaragua.  It's one of the near-shore islands off of Padang, Sumatra.  I took the shot out the window of my airplane yesterday.  For those of you who didn't know, I'm taking a month off, looking for some good waves over here.  There aren't often waves breaking on this island - only when it's big in the barrier islands (Mentawai's, Telo's, etc).  I'll be there in a couple of days and hope the swell still holds.  Right now, I'm in Padang.

After two days of traveling - Orlando to Houston to Moscow (yes, Moscow, Russia) to Singapore to Jakarta to Padang - the traditional architecture of the Padang airport was a welcome site.

I love Indonesia.  This is me in the Padang market.  I had to change some money and I wanted to look around.  Everything here is so different and colorful and loud.  The last time I was here it felt much hotter.  I guess that's one of the advantages of living in Nicaragua.

This is the Bumi Minang Hotel.  The last time I was here I stayed here.  Once it was one of the nicest hotels in Padang.  It was destroyed by the earthquake last year and is now condemned.

I've got a couple of days here until I head out to get some waves.  The forecast is looking good and I brought the camera gear.  Hopefully I'll get some good shots to share.  Please check back later!

After checking the pics posted in by Pancho Samchez we are going to throw a couple shots in from San Juan del Surf, Nicaragua.  We stick around the bay and snapped a couple of cool shots.  If you have never surfed at the bay this is the best season to score some fun ones right our front so come over and have fun.  Check it out!!!

It's been raining a lot lately and the rivers are flowing hard.  Check out this shot of this wall from one of the beach houses in San Juan del Sur about to be collapsed by the power of nature.  This is one of the reason that i prefer to live away from the beach.

The day cleared up for a while in the afternoon so we rum to the bay and got a couple shots.  This is Walter "La Anguilita" going higher on this wave to get more speed.

A few guys took advantage on the small but super fun and clean waves we had rolling in at the bay.  This Ebelicito riding a sweet looking left on his SUP.

La Bestia Calderon took a giant SUP out as well and was picking up some nice ones.  Here he is caught doing his thing on this right.

A couple of short boarders made it out and were ripping it up.  Check out this local kid smacking thte lip of this closed out section.

It is kinda inebitable not to turn your head around to watch a nice looking girl walking down the street.  Check out those 3 guys in the background thinking about (!!!!!!).

Alright folks, that's all for today.  Please check back tomorrow!!!
